Soprema Gathers Green Energy to Power LEED Platinum Project

January 6, 2025

Recently, Soprema's full-roof waterproofing and insulation system, which meets the FM construction standards, was laid at the Beijing Aero Engine Maintenance Project, and the project was awarded LEED Platinum certification, which is not only a badge of honor that we are proud of, but also a strong affirmation of Soprema's excellent quality. We will continue to play a pioneering role in the field of green building and sustainable development, and promote the industry to move towards the goal of zero carbon.

Project Background

Beijing Aero Engine Servicing Limited (BAESL), a 50/50 joint venture between Air China and Rolls-Royce (Rollo), is located in the Beijing Capital Airport's Lingkong Economic Zone, occupies an area of 80,000 square meters, and will be put into operation in 2026. Rollo is one of the world's top three aircraft engine manufacturers. BAESL is Rollo's first Trent engine maintenance base in Mainland China and the fourth in the world, and will focus on providing a full range of maintenance and overhaul services for Rollo's meticulously crafted high-end engines such as Trent 700, Trent XWB84 and Trent 1000. BAESL will ensure that every heart of power can be glowing with endless potential and soar to the skies.

Project Introduction

Beijing Aero Engine Maintenance Project Receives LEED Platinum Certification

LEED is a green building assessment system established and implemented by the U.S. Green Building Council, which is the most widely recognized and applicable green building certification system in the world, applicable to all phases of building types and various building types, and of great significance for revitalizing and expanding the scale of the market in the field of sustainable construction. Platinum is the highest level of LEED certification, the industry's green energy-saving benchmark, and the most difficult level to obtain, known as the global green building in the “Oscars”, so far, China's registered and certified LEED projects, less than 2% of the projects to obtain the platinum level. It demonstrates the superiority of the Beijing Aero Engine Maintenance Project building in terms of sustainable transportation, sustainable site, energy and water efficiency, material resource utilization, and indoor environmental quality during the operation phase, and promotes the development of sustainable building practices.

The Solution

Sopramax provided a full-roof waterproofing and insulation system for the Beijing Aero Engine Maintenance Project that met FM construction standards:

  • 2.0mm FLAGON EP/PR TPO
  • 50mm + 50mm Mammoth Board (Roofing special glass fiber laminated high strength rock wool board)
  • 0.3mm SOPRAVAP VISIO self-adhesive vapor barrier

Flagon EP/PR TPO waterproofing membrane with very high weathering and UV resistance in the top layer and excellent puncture resistance in the lower surface layer.

SOPRAVAP VISIO vapor barrier can enhance the airtightness of the building, watertightness, and effectively solve the problem of condensation caused by the role of water vapor inside the building into the enclosure structure and protect the durability of the building structure.

Soprema Mammoth Board (Roofing Special Glass Fiber Coated High Strength Rockwool Board) has the characteristics of high and low temperature resistance, Class A fire resistance and thermal conductivity, environmental protection and odorless.

Compared with ordinary rock wool, Mammoth Board (roofing special glass fiber laminated high-strength rock wool board) has many advantages:

  • Convenient construction, can be localized cutting, does not affect the overall thermal insulation performance.
  • High surface strength, to provide a solid construction surface for polymer coil, effectively improve the quality of polymer coil welding, to avoid coil due to soft insulation layer of false welding, leakage welding problems, to ensure the quality of roof waterproofing project.
  • The surface layer of glass fiber felt can isolate the thermal insulation material from the waterproofing membrane and play a protective role.
  • High air permeability effectively prevents the structural layer of condensation phenomenon.
  • The surface has good hydrophobic properties, which can enhance the anti-humidity performance of rock wool and ensure the thermal insulation effect of rock wool during the dew construction season.
  • Overall wear resistance is higher than ordinary rock wool, the surface is not easy to damage during installation, thus ensuring the integrity of the rock wool board and thermal insulation effect.
