Reducing our carbon footprint with eco-based products

Biomass and material recycling allow us to reduce our dependence on petrochemical materials
In an interview for the newspaper "Les Echos", Rémi Perrin, in charge of Research and Development and Olivier Weymann, Director of Environmental Strategy at SOPREMA, explained how we reduce our dependence on petroleum-based materials.
Recycling materials, biomass and collaborations with researchers from the University of Strasbourg and the CNRS are all actions that we have been implementing for more than 10 years to reduce our dependence on petrochemical materials.
In 2017, we invested €21 million to create a joint laboratory with the CNRS. This laboratory has been named "Mutaxio" for mutation focused on bio-sourced materials for a sustainable building. The latter has allowed us to be pioneers in certain research and has led to many innovations.
Currently, the share of our eco-sourced products (from recycling or biomass) represents 15% of the raw materials used each year by our factories. It grew by 20% between 2019 and 2021.
Our goal by 2030 is to reach 65% of products that are eco-sourced.
Our decisions are also guided by economic logic. Mileage and the mode of transport of resources are taken into account in particular in the life cycle analysis.
The objective of our R&D department is to imagine the solutions of tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.
